A Malaysian ex-international student has been awarded the New Australian of the Year award for his community-building work, including helping establish a lounge space in Melbourne.

A student from Sheffield Hallam University has been named the most transformed study abroad student in the UK, winning the Universities Choice category in the Third Year Abroad Awards.

The University of Melbourne in Australia has reached its fundraising campaign target of A$500m two years earlier than scheduled. There were significant donors outside of Australia and it was the largest public campaign by a uni in Asia Pacific.
