The move, described as “very difficult news” by senior stakeholders, marks a strategic decision allowing THE to focus on its core data and subscription business.
Driven by global pressure on the international student recruitment sector, THE had decided to close the international student recruitment event and marketing company BMI at the end of 2026. An exact date was not given.
THE acquired BMI in 2022. The company delivers international student recruitment fairs, student counsellor workshops, scholarship summits and professional networking events.
The PIE News has contacted THE for comment.
The news follows several high profile closures and acquisitions of prominent names in the international education sector over the past few months.
Majot ELT providers BSC Education, EC English and ILAC Education Group all went under within a matter of weeks. Meanwhile, Kaplan Languages group was sold to private equity firm Inspirit, formally rebranding to Positively Languages this week.
It follows months of worsening policy headwinds for major markets, with several countries experiencing compliance clampdowns and a surge in visa refusals.
