The University of Alberta and Kaplan International have announced plans to launch foundation programs for international students.

Starting in the 2024/2025 academic year, the new foundation program will expand the university’s international recruitment efforts and support its strategic vision to grow enrolment, the institution said in a statement.

“We are thrilled to have been selected as the university’s strategic partner on this exciting project, following a rigorous RFP process,” said Hannah Drover, executive director for Kaplan International Pathways in Canada.

“The University of Alberta has a stellar reputation, at home and overseas, and is committed to providing the highest level of academic, social, and career success outcomes for their students, priorities that Kaplan values highly,” she continued.

“Edmonton is a fantastic student city, and the province of Alberta is very supportive and welcoming to international students. It’s the beginning of a great, impactful partnership.”

The partnership expects to serve 100 students in the first academic year, increasing to 500 students by year three of the program.

Kaplan will recruit and provide tailored support services for international students, who will attend their first year of university as part of the university’s foundation program.

After completing a “transition year” in the program, students who meet admission criteria will progress to a degree program in their second year, the university clarified.

In other news, Kaplan Languages Group has acquired Nice-based Azurlingua language school.

While Kaplan offers English, French and German courses in locations around the world and online, Azurlingua language school has been offering French courses for more than 30 years in classrooms and online and will continue to operate under the Azurlingua brand.

“This is terrific news for everyone involved,” said David Fougere, COO of Kaplan Languages Group.

“Azurlingua’s alignment with our principles and vision is truly remarkable. For over 85 years, Kaplan has stood as a beacon of excellence in education, empowering students to reach their career aspirations and master the English language.

“Together with Azurlingua, we are expanding our French and European portfolio, and we are proud to continue this journey with a team widely known for its outstanding support and superb service. I extend my heartfelt thanks to everyone who played a role in making this a reality.”

Meanwhile, Jean Luc Librati, CEO of Azurlingu said the move to join Kaplan Languages Group is a “significant milestone” for the language school.

“Since 1990, Azurlingua has become a leading French language school for non-native speakers,” said Luc Librati.

“We are united in our commitment to delivering the highest educational standards to international students,” he continued.

“As we begin this new chapter, I am deeply grateful to our team, whose dedication has been crucial to our three decades of success. We’ll remain a close-knit family, committed to excellence.”
