A fourth Turkish education agency association ‘The Overseas Education Consultants and Agents’ Association,’ (YEDAD) has formed, making the government’s call for unity in the sector less plausible in the busy education counselling industry. The new group already has around 120 members.
One of Turkey’s peak agency associations, UED, claims the USA refused a higher number of student visas for Turks than any other major study destination in 2012. However, it says the situation has started to improve in 2013. The UED survey more generally offers a snapshot of the Turkish market, showing business growing after a static 2012.
Rejections of visa applications to study English in the US have soared in Turkey in recent months, causing panic among agents and US ELT providers for whom Turkey is a key source market. The rejections are linked to a Turkish visa fraud case in the US. Agency association UED cites up to 80% refusal rates.
One of Turkey’s education agency associations, UED, organised a national TV appearance for one of its directors to boost the reputation of education agencies in the sector. Gülcin Taskin, a UED director, appeared on education news show Tercih Başar on the TGRT Haber channel.
