The US Agency for International Development (USAID) has launched a major new project combining the research efforts of US and foreign universities to provide solutions for the developing world. US Secretary of State Hilary Clinton Clinton hailed the project as a new approach to development which could lead to "positive outcomes for millions".

Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the USA has risen to the top of QS's latest global university rankings, unveiled today, with its international faculty one reason for its dominance. The US institution knocked Cambridge University in the UK from the top spot which it had held for two years.
