Changes to visa regulations introduced this year are harming EFL schools, according to South Africa's association of English language providers, which estimates that immigration rules may cut some schools’ business by up to 60%.
The Malaysian government says it is on track to meet its goal of attracting 200,000 international students annually by 2020 as it implements new measures to raise English language levels in tertiary education. Earlier this month, Deputy Prime Minister and Education Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin announced that all university students will be required to pass English language in order to graduate from university.
Plans to remove English language testing from China's highly competitive university entrance exam will come into force a year earlier than originally planned. Students will now sit an external English exam that can be taken multiple times throughout the year as part of the university admissions process.
