Canadian public schools aren’t doing enough to promote the country’s unique French/English bilingual society new research commissioned by the Canadian Association of Public Schools - International (CAPS-I) has found. The single most significant reason high school students choose to study in Canada for French language acquisition is the country’s bilingual environment it reports.
Canadian public schools voiced their concerns about bill C-35 at this year’s CAPS-I conference in Toronto, complaining that the reform was making them “jump through hoops” to recruit international K-12 students. The bill, enacted in March 2011, makes it an offence for anyone other than an “authorised representative” of the government to advise on a students’ visa application for a fee.
Public schools from across Canada will participate in their first ever trade mission to Turkey. Led by the Canadian Association of Public Schools-International (CAPS-I), the trip aims to attract high school students from Turkey and expand Canada's ties with the country. High school fees average around CAN$12,000 a year per international student.
Canada has welcomed 400 Brazilians to its public schools through a scholarship programme aimed at increasing English language ability of those from lower socioeconomic backgrounds. Brazil is said to be a "steadily growing market" for public schools.
