UK: ISSOS launches online summer school

International summer school company ISSOS has announced an expansion into online education with the launch of ISSOS Online.

"We know from speaking to our alumni that many of them are really worried about falling behind in school"

Founded in Scotland in 2006, ISSOS International typically attracts over 600 students to its locations at St Andrews, Cambridge and Yale universities. However, as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, the provider did not operate ISSOS campuses in 2020.

“Our hope is that our online program allows us to reach even more students around the world”

The online provision will launch in summer 2021 and be a permanent addition to the company’s in-person campuses.

“High school students all over the world faced unprecedented academic challenges in the last year and have missed out on months of vital time in school with their teachers,” said Jen Munro, founder and CEO of ISSOS.

“We know from speaking to our alumni that many of them are really worried about falling behind in school and are now feeling underprepared for the move up to university.”

The two-week online learning program will run July 2-16, offering 50+ hours of course content delivered in a blend of live online classes and pre-loaded learning segments.

ISSOS has partnered with another Scottish business, WildHearts, to offer a Business & Entrepreneurship program. Headed by Mick Jackson, WildHearts will lead the Micro-Tyco Innovate program. Other courses include Advanced Study Skills, Creative Writing, as well as a range of additional enrichment activities.

“Our hope is that our online program allows us to reach even more students around the world, helping to enhance their academic CVs as they prepare for the next level in their education,” Munro continued.

“The growing partnership with WildHearts is something that we are really excited about too.

“We have worked together before at our campus in Cambridge, where Mick guest lectured for our own B&E class about the positive impact that businesses can have. Micro Tyco Innovate is new to ISSOS Online so we’re excited about what it will add for our students.”

Earlier in 2021, ISSOS won the Best International Student Education Experience award at the SME News Scottish Enterprise Awards.

One Response to UK: ISSOS launches online summer school

  1. I think a lot of companies and organisations who have traditionally been offering residential summer programmes are doing this and it is a trend that will continue. We started some online provision actually before covid struck, but the pandemic has certainly led to much more urgency in making the development of sustainable online learning practices a priority.
