In light of the Covid-19 pandemic, TFAS moved all in-person summer international programs virtually, so that students who were previously enrolled in this summer’s Prague and Asia programs were invited to join the seminar.

“TFAS students are ambitious, grateful, and demonstrate a committed to public service”

The Prague and Asia programs are run each summer for three weeks, where students explore the fundamental principles of a free society and examine how economic and political freedom are intertwined.

The virtual program is the first of its kind and is a unique global enterprise, with professors from US universities including Georgetown University, Notre Dame, Texas Tech, and Hillsdale College providing a virtual academic opportunity to students from dozens of countries.

The program includes a series of lectures and live discussion sessions, with the curriculum will examining the relationship between governments and markets, through an exploration of socialism, the welfare state, and classical liberalism.

Through online forums and live discussions, students can engage with instructors and their peers, and the program cost has been covered by TFAS donors.

“The TFAS Global Political Economy Seminar offers students from over 30 countries the opportunity to examine the relationship between governments and markets, focusing on the alternatives of socialism, the welfare state, and classical liberalism,” said Brenda Hafera, director of International and Continuing Education Programs at TFAS.

“TFAS students are ambitious, grateful, and demonstrate a committed to public service and the responsibilities of citizenship.

“The seminar includes a series of virtual discussion sessions and recorded lectures to offer such students the opportunity to learn from a lineup of well-regarded faculty who teach in our programs based in DC, Prague, and Singapore,” she added.

The virtual program takes place until August 24, 2020.
