Czech Republic hosts first alumni networking event

The Czech National Agency for International Education and Research’s initiative Study in the Czech Republic (STUDY IN) organised its first Alumni Networking Event on May 5 for international graduates of domestic universities, and former short-term study exchange, internships and summer school participants.

The inaugural event was held online and attended by around 45 alumni

“The Alumni Networking Event is a part of the newly established Czech Republic Alumni program which aims to connect international alumni who have studied at Czech higher education institutions,” explained STUDY IN in a statement.

“The program’s goal is to foster a relationship between the Czech Republic and its international alumni”

“The program’s goal is to foster a relationship between the Czech Republic and its international alumni in order to support the internationalisation of Czech higher education and mediate job opportunities between international alumni and Czech public as well as private sector.

“It also allows alumni to share their experience with each other and with students potentially interested in studying in the Czech Republic.”

The inaugural event was held online and attended by around 45 alumni along with DZS representatives and partners.

“We hope to connect with all international alumni, build on their experience in the Czech Republic, and offer them meaningful opportunities for professional growth and networking with fellow alumni as well as our Czech partners,” Radana Zbořilová from the STUDY IN initiative explained.

“We plan to organise three more alumni events this year, one of them focused on alumni online networking and two of them will focus on alumni meet up (online or hybrid format) based on their current location.”

  1. Great to see the growth of “national” alumni programs in the educational context. Holland Alumni Network has set a strong standard for these kinds of programs. The challenge, as with all alumni networks, is to deliver relevant and useful interaction that alumni can’t easily get from some other source.

  2. Dear Andy, thank you for opening the discussion with such a great comment. And you are absolutely correct! Holland Alumni Network is definitely a best-practice example of leading a national alumni network. Thanks to the hard work of countries with national alumni programmes such as Holland, France, Germany, Hungary, or Australia, we would not be here today.

We thought exactly about this in the early stage of developing our activities and determined it to be crucial to ask our target group, what type of content and activities they would find valuable receiving from national vs. university alumni programmes. Organizing events such as this one was one of the most valuable activities the national programme can offer based on the respondent’s answers. The results (unfortunately only in Czech) from the qualitative study can be found on the website of the Czech National Agency for International Education and Research (DZS): https://www.dzs.cz/statistiky/narodni-absolventsky-program-dzs-czech-republic-alumni

Do you have any thoughts on how to prepare and work through this challenge? It would be great to discuss this topic more.

    Best, Lucie
