In a statement announcing the awards, Sina, a major online media company in China, stressed the importance of international providers in strengthening China’s education offering. Two of the five main awards categories – the impact award and the International Social Media Influencer Award – were dedicated to international institutions.

“With the seamless development of global information, international education has become an important forum for Chinese education,” the statement read.

“I am really glad and honoured to participate in this award ceremony,” commented Lina Li, Cambridge senior manager in Beijing.

Over the last year, the examinations body has launched a number of initiatives targeting students in China, including a tailored website and more training for teachers.

“We are looking forward to more opportunities for closer cooperation with Chinese educators, parents and students,” added Li.

Several international bodies were also recognised for their strong social media presence in China.

The US Embassy was lauded for its “microblogging diplomacy”, which has seen its Weibo presence grow by some 100,000 followers annually to 950,000.

Meanwhile, Education New Zealand also won an award for its Weibo presence, launched last year, which judges praised for its work in strengthening understanding of New Zealand’s international education offering and promoting “in-depth cooperation” between institutions in the two countries.

As well as the five top awards, Sina also presented accolades to individual institutions in 24 additional categories.

International institutions also made appearances among these award categories, including Alliance Manchester Business School, whose China centre was named one of the Most Influential MBA School winners for the third year running for its success in adapting to the needs of the Chinese market.

“We are extremely proud to be recognised again in China for our MBA programme’s quality as well as the accomplishments that our centre and alumni have achieved,” China centre director Sherry Fu commented.
