Last week INTO University Partnerships signed a letter of intent to form a joint venture with George Mason University (GMU) in Virginia marking its fifth US partner institution. The company also reports that the 2013 fall intake for its established US partnerships has exceeded enrolment expectations.

INTO Oregon State University was the company's first US venture, launched in 2009

If approved, the GMU partnership will see the first cohort of students arrive for the 2014-2015 academic year

Oregon State University, the University of South Florida and Colorado State University all experienced double digit growth (19%) on the previous year while its most recent partnership with Marshall University welcomed 170 students from 23 countries at its launch this fall.

“The ambitious universities with whom we’re partnered are committed to comprehensive internationalization as part of their long-term strategy for institutional growth and evolution.”

Expanding its US presence, the company is finalising the agreement with George Mason University that is expected to be submitted to the Mason Board of Visitors for approval in mid-December. If approved, the partnership will see the first cohort of students arrive for the 2014-2015 academic year.

“The collaboration with INTO will help us deliver on key aspects of the university’s vision and strategic plan, which calls for us to produce 100,000 graduates over the next decade and to expand our reach as a global university,” said President Ángel Cabrera.

Since 2006, INTO has launched partnerships with 17 institutions in the US, UK and Asia. Oregon State was its first US venture launched in 2009 followed by University of South Florida in 2010. It’s Colorado State University partnership was opened in August 2012.

To date, the company says it has helped more than 5,000 international students from over 100 countries begin their academic studies at institutions in the US. Earlier this year it sold a 25% stake to the US private equity firm Leeds Equity Partners for £66 million.
