GLS Berlin, which joins as IH Berlin, has one of the largest campuses in the centre of the city and offers services including a student hotel and restaurant onsite, but Director Barbara Jaeschke said with nearly 100 schools in Berlin, joining the network will help learners “identify a quality school”.

Increased visibility through the IH brand is also an incentive for School Director of Giga IH Catania, Palmina La Rosa. “By becoming an IHWO affiliate school we can make the teaching standards visible and tangible to our students,” she said.

IH Luanda is due to open at the end of the month after IH Cape Town experienced dramatic growth in Angolan students travelling to South Africa to study. Director Jonathan Thompson told The PIE News earlier this month that he is “optimistic” that it will begin teaching 175-200 enrolments.

The fourth school, International Centre Linguist, now IH Voronezh, combines a language school with a teacher-training department and an authorised Cambridge ESOL examination centre.

Founded in 1953, the International House World Organisation (IHWO) spans every continent, and while many affiliate schools teach English, there are a total of 27 different languages taught across the network.
