The domestic UK market has long been of interest to IH London

Previously courses were exclusively for international students, but the new programs have been tailored to allow UK secondary and international students to “heighten skills, create new friendships and explore a huge variety of stimulating activities”, the provider has said.

Courses starting July 25 include professional coaching in football, dance, tennis or movie making, along with programs around on developing leadership, critical thinking, teamwork and entrepreneurial skills.

“After a year spent largely at home, many teens are excited to stretch their legs this summer”

“After a year spent largely at home, many teens are excited to stretch their legs this summer and get back to exploring the world around them, whilst growing emotionally and academically,” the provider said.

“As many students have missed out on vital opportunities for educational trips and experiences over the last year, we have designed our new courses to act as a perfect addition to CVs and university applications.”

The courses for 12-17 year-olds will be held at St Edward’s Private Boarding School in Oxford.

“If the market responds as we hoped then we’d be looking at 75-100 students per week throughout the summer,” sales & marketing director at IH London Lawrence Jackson noted.

The provider is looking to the domestic market as the possibility of international travel remains unclear, but it has long been of interest, he indicated.

“At this stage we can only rely on international students that are already at boarding school in the UK and will remain here over summer. Once the traffic light countries are announced we will be in a better position to confirm the status of existing bookings from our core markets,” Jackson explained.

“The domestic market has long since been a source of interest for us as we see real value in offering integration between native and non-native English speakers. The pandemic has accelerated our plans to move in this direction and we see an opportunity here which extends beyond the current crisis.”

The Covid-secure program will cater to both residential and non-residential students, who will join activities alongside international students, “allowing them to strengthen their confidence and communication skills, and build friends from diverse global cultures”, IH London added.
