ENZ targets US market with $15,000 prize

Education New Zealand (ENZ) has partnered with US-based online study abroad search platform Go Overseas to offer one US student a scholarship worth NZ$15,000 for a semester abroad in New Zealand.

Go Overseas is currently in talks with government organisations in other countries to run similar campaigns in future

The scholarship, which aims to promote New Zealand as a study destination to US students, attracted over a thousand applications from students in 615 universities across the US.

“It’s not always easy to have new ideas approved by government institutions, but Education New Zealand trusted us to run a great campaign for them and supported us every step of the way,” President and Co-founder of Go Overseas Mitch Gordon told The PIE News.

“This promotion has made a significant impact on study abroad’s accessibility and reach for students across the US”

Go Overseas’ Study and Intern Abroad Director Anna Morris added that “this successful promotion has made a significant impact on study abroad’s accessibility and reach for students across the US.”

The winner, Emma Faucher, whose creative essays and unique photo submission helped her clinch the prize, will participate in the ISA Programme at the Victoria University of Wellington next spring. The cost of her flights is also being covered by STA Travel.

The site developed specifically for the scholarship had over 45,000 page views and interest online is expected to continue as Faucher will be blogging about her New Zealand experience.

Gordon added that he expects the number of US study abroad students in New Zealand to  “rise in a significant way” in 2015.
