The school is to expected bring 150 permanent local jobs when it opens in 2020

Due to open in 2020 with enrolments of around 975 students from 75 countries, EF Academy Pasadena will be the company’s fourth international boarding school, specialising in preparing pupils for lifelong global citizenship.

“We see education as a force to unite people, nations, and cultures”

It will be the company’s second US campus, joining its Thornwood, New York school, while EF also has two UK schools, in Torbay and Oxford.

The school will be located at the redeveloped site of the former William Carey International University campus, and is expected to bring 150 permanent local jobs and $5 million to businesses in the area annually.

With brand-new sports facilities, including a regulation-sized football pitch and swimming pool, EF Academy says it will stand out in the region as it prepares students for a future with no borders through its rigorous curriculum, multilingual education and experiential learning.

“Nearly 40 years after EF opened its first US operations in Santa Barbara, we are excited to expand again in the Los Angeles region and add to our portfolio of schools up and down the California coast,” EF vice president Shawna Marino said.

“EF Academy is very intentional about teaching our students how to live successfully in their host community, and we look forward to seeing how our students contribute to Pasadena and the L.A. area overall.”

Incoming head of school George Stewart said that together with the school’s curriculum, and its diverse student body, the institution will build “bridges between cultural groups and understanding diverse perspectives”

“We see education as a force to unite people, nations, and cultures in order to create a more peaceful and sustainable world,” he noted.

Pasadena Mayor Terry Tornek added that the city was thrilled to welcome the school and its international students.

“We believe the school will complement our diverse, vibrant community and that students will benefit from the many opportunities available right at their doorstep,” he said.

  1. I’m a neighbor to the school and was wondering is the pool, soccer field, etc will be open to the public as I have a 2.5 year old and think it would be amazing if we can use the facility as well
