British Council extends online agent training

The British Council has developed an online suite of training to provide a practical and professional training program for agents and counsellors to enable them to recommend the UK as a study destination to international students.

The training will also cover the attractions for students considering studying and living in the UK. Image: Pixabay

The multiple levels of training will be released in phases over the coming months

The ‘British Council Agent and Counsellor Training Suite’ aims to provide school counsellors, college counsellors, teachers and education agents online courses with the knowledge to become a fully Certified British Council Agent or counsellor.

“Preparing for success is beneficial not only for the students but also for our agents and counsellors”

The training has been updated to reflect the changing context around UK education for international students and education industry trends and will enable learners, in any location with internet access on any device to complete the training when it best suits them.

As well as the UK education and training system, the training suite covers student lifestyle issues, standard entry requirements, visas and the attractions for students considering studying and living in the UK.

The multiple levels of training will be released in phases over the coming months and will encourage and track professional development on an on-going basis.

Director of International Education Services at British Council, Brenda McMahon, described it as an exciting new suite for all individuals who recommend the UK as a study destination for international students.

“Whether you’re a new entrant or experienced in the sector, we’re welcoming you to discover multiple levels of high-quality learning,” she said.

“With over 400,000 international students coming to the UK to study, we recognise that preparing for success is beneficial not only for the students themselves but also for our agent and counsellor community and the UK as a study destination.”

The extended suite comes 15 months after the last major agent training tool was launched by the British Council, via online platform FutureLearn in December 2017.
