The project is organised in partnership with Mais Caminhos, an NGO promoting education for children and teens from Rio de Janeiro’s poorer communities.

The organisation is running courses for students aged 12 to 16 with funds from Bayswater, and its general manager Maria Dupuy said that the program is “off to a great start.”

“The response from the students and parents was overwhelmingly positive,” she said in a statement.

“We chose Mais Caminhos for their shared values, knowledge of teaching and caring for people from a less privileged background. This is the first project of many, and we will be announcing more… in the coming months,” Bayswater director James Herbertson said in a statement.

Founded in 2018, Bayswater was established with the promise that for every course delivered to internationals students in the UK, it would offer a free course to underprivileged students overseas.

The courses run by Mais Caminhos in Rio are just the start, Herbertson told The PIE.

“In the next 12 months Bayswater Education expects to provide more than 7,500 student weeks of education around the world in 4 different regions: South American, Middle East, Europe and the Far East,” he said.

He explained that Bayswater will partner with a local charities to fund English language tuition, running at least one project in every region. Over the summer of 2019 the organisation will also run a program for refugees to introduce them to university life in the UK.
