ANZ: platform pools career info on academic staff

A partnership between Australian-based education solutions provider, Edalex, and US technology company, Interfolio, will see academics in Australia and New Zealand be able to communicate their professional and scholarly story better when seeking employment.

The ANZ launch increases Interfolio's reach after launching in the US

“We believe advance the academic, advance the institution”

The service pools together academics’ information – such as statements of teaching, statements of research, theses and recommendation letters – to help institutions in the hiring process.

“We believe advance the academic, advance the institution, and there’s never been technology to advance the academic,” said Interfolio chief executive Andrew Rosen, adding academics were one of the least represented group in technology, despite being a crucial part of an institution.

“Academics and the academic staff of the university are responsible predominantly for a lot of the revenue base, whether it’s through teaching and learning and the state appropriations, or tuition… or whether it’s through funded research.”

Rosen told The PIE News the platform would benefit both institutions and academics, providing meaningful data that can be collected depending on the institutional purpose which is updated and curated over a scholar’s career.

“When you are seeking a position as a scholar… the average dossier can contain 25-30 artefacts,” he said.

“Having that aggregated in one place to be able to create collections for different institutional purposes is extremely helpful.”

The partnership between the two organisations will see Edalex supply Interfolio’s services to Australia and New Zealand and build on the latter’s market share, after launching in the US.

“Edalex’s mission is to ‘help put innovation into education’ and we believe Interfolio is uniquely positioned to deliver that to institutions across the ANZ region,” said Dan McFadyen, managing director of Edalex.

“Their products recognise the critical role that academics play in the institutional ecosystem and provide with them intuitive tools to make their experience more rewarding and productive.”
