London Higher, UK. Professor Shitij Kapur, the vice chancellor and president of King’s College London, has been elected as the new chair of London Higher by members of the organisation, which represents the higher education sector in London. Shitij became vice chancellor and president of King’s College in 2021 and was previously the dean of the medical faculty and assistant vice chancellor at the University of Melbourne. Shitij previously served as assistant principal and dean of the Institute of Psychiatry at King’s and has been a vocal advocate for international students, for the civic work of King’s and the institution’s partnership working with other higher education institutions within the UK and globally. Shitij said: “Our higher education sector is woven into the fabric of the capital … But this is a challenging moment as many question both our value and our values. So this is the time to reinforce our purpose, our contributions, our impact.”
