The Russell Group, UK. Libby Hackett has started a new role as chief executive of the Russell Group, which represents 24 leading universities located in every region and nation of the UK. Libby joins from the Australian Public Policy Institute, where she has been CEO since its inception in 2021. In this role, she has led the establishment and significant expansion of the organisation and the impact of Australian universities on government policy more broadly. She was also an adjunct professor of economics at the University of Sydney. Libby has extensive experience of UK higher education. She was the inaugural CEO of University Alliance, director of research at the Russell Group and special advisor to the Education and Skills Select Committee, to name a few former roles. Libby said: “Russell Group universities play an immensely important role in the UK economy and society, and I am looking forward to contributing to the Group’s mission and shaping its public contribution through partnership with government, industry and beyond.”
