Universities Canada, Canada. Joy Johnson, president of Simon Fraser University, has been appointed vice-chair of Universities Canada’s Board of Directors for a term of one year. After serving in this role, she is expected to succeed McGill University President, Deep Saini, as chair of Universities Canada’s Board of Directors from October 2025-2027. Prior to Simon Fraser University, Dr. Johnson served as SFU’s vice-president, research and international, after serving as a professor in the School of Nursing at the University of British Columbia. “Dr. Johnson is a highly accomplished and respected university leader who has been an outstanding contributor to our organisation and Board of Directors. Dr. Johnson’s leadership reflects her deep commitment to excellence in research and higher education and will no doubt continue providing strong, national leadership to Canada’s universities as Vice-Chair,” said Universities Canada President and CEO, Gabriel Miller.
