Keele University, UK. Carol Shanahan has been appointed chancellor of Keele University. Carol is a prominent business and community leader and Port Vale Football Club chairperson. Carol, who was awarded an honorary degree by the university in 2022 for her services to the community, becomes the sixth person to hold the role. She is the first woman to be appointed since Keele’s inaugural Chancellor, HRH The Princess Margaret, who held the position from 1962 to 1986. Carol said she felt “honoured beyond words” to be appointed as Chancellor and was “excited to get started” in the role. She succeeds James Timpson, who stepped down as the University’s Chancellor after being appointed Prisons Minister in the UK Government. “I’ve long admired the important role Keele University plays across the region and beyond, and its commitment to creating positive social impact and widening opportunity closely reflects the values that have guided my own work over many years,” she said.
