Jacobs University, Germany. Antonio Loprieno, President of the European Federation of Academies of Sciences and Humanities and former Rector of the University of Basel, has joinedJacobs University in Bremen as its president. Antonio studied Egyptology, Linguistics and Semitic Studies at the University of Turin in Italy, before teaching at various European universities. He was also a professor of Egyptology at the renowned University of California Los Angeles, and later served as a professor at the University of Basel. From 2008 to 2015, Antonio was also President of the Swiss Rectors’ Conference. Since May 2018, he has been President of the Swiss Academies of Arts and Sciences and President of the European Federation of Academies of Sciences and Humanities, an association of more than 50 academies in over 40 countries. He became a member of the Board of Governors of Jacobs University in August 2018. “Jacobs University is now well positioned to achieve further academic success while maintaining economic sustainability,” he said.
