The English UK Annual Conference 2017

The English UK annual conference took place on May 9 & 10 this year in Bristol. The conference gives members the chance to receive updates on strategy, statistics and wider trends in UK ELT, as well as to meet other members. On the first evening, members mingled at a reception held at the Marriott Bristol Royal Hotel.

Australian ELICOS and vocational provider BROWNS launched its fifth campus in Brisbane on May 4. Served by current BROWNS students, guests mingled and celebrated the provider’s achievements.

CAPS-I’s Annual Conference Day 1

CAPS-I’s Annual Conference in Calgary, Canada kicked off  with mingling, drinks and even some magic! This year’s theme is Navigating the Future of International Education and there will be over 350 delegates from across Canada as well as exhibitors from around the globe.

AFS Global Citizenship Forum, India

AFS Intercultural Programs and the AFS Asia-Pacific Initiative with the support of UNESCO New Delhi Office held the third annual AFS Asia-Pacific International Global Citizenship Education Forum in April. The event brought together educators, industry and governments to discuss how to include teaching intercultural skills and global citizenship alongside traditional curriculums.

London Nest charity quiz night, London

Student accommodation provider London Nest hosted a quiz night in the capital on April 20, in aid of the Zimbabwe Rural Schools Development Programme. Twenty teams participated in the quiz, and The PIE donated some prizes for the winners. The money raised from the night will go towards the development of a new secondary school.

FAUBAI Conference, Porto Alegre, Brazil

Over 500 participants gathered in Porto Alegre, Brazil, for the Brazilian Association for International Education (FAUBAI) conference. The event across five days was centred around the theme of “New Trends on Internationalization of Higher Education: Social Engagement and Innovation”. The conference consisted of six plenary sessions, 45 parallel sessions and 119 presentations.

Kings receives Queen’s Award for Enterprise

On April 18, Kings Education was given the Queen’s Award for Enterprise within the category of international trade. The award recognises outstanding achievement by UK businesses in categories including innovation, sustainable development and promoting opportunity through social mobility. The Queen’s Lord Lieutenant for East Sussex made the presentation to the Directors of Kings Education.

#OneBraveNight for Mental Health, Toronto

On April 7, guard.me staff and school campus ambassadors pulled an all-nighter in the Westin Harbour Castle Hotel’s lobby as part of Toronto’s Centre for Addiction and Mental Health #OneBraveNight for Mental Health challenge, inviting people to drop by throughout the night for support and selfies.

2017 ANZA Workshop, Cairns, Australia

The 10th annual ANZA workshop attracted 450 delegates from around the world to Cairns, in Australia’s top end. The first time the event was held outside a major capital city, educators and agents enjoyed discovering Australia’s regional education offerings.

University representatives and other UK higher education stakeholders attended the glitzy Whatuni Student Choice Awards in central London. Hosted by British comedian, David Mitchell, the awards were voted for by students, and recognised excellence in aspects of university life, including Courses and Lecturers, International, and Job Prospects.
