International House held its annual Academic Management & Trainers Conference 2018 in Greenwich, London in January. Across three days, delegates heard from speakers from both within the industry and from other fields relevant to education and management, shared good practice and attended networking sessions, including the IHWO Quiz and Karaoke night.
FEDELE held its eighth meeting of Spanish language centres in January 2018. The meeting aimed to show teachers and heads of Spanish teaching centres the benefits of immersion courses. The program included a range of cultural and gastronomic activities that provide an overview of teaching Spanish in Spain.
UTP High Schools, which offers specialized programs for international students in US high schools, hosted the ICEF Miami Welcome Reception earlier in December. North American institutions attended the conference and met agents to boost international enrollments and increase the quality of student applicants.
The NCUK Prize Awards were handed out at the third annual NCUK Partner Conference at Manchester Metropolitan University in November. Over 50 delegates from NCUK Study Centres as far away as Peru, China, Thailand, Nigeria attended the conference. Each year, NCUK awards prizes to students with the best academic results from the NCUK global network.
The SRT Fall 2017 Spain Tour for admission officers and international educators stretched over five days. 42 universities attended, as did three non-governmental organisations, Education USA, British Council and Embassy of Canada. The cities the tour visited included Sotogrande, Madrid, Alicante, Valencia, Castellón.
The annual MLA conference took place in Amsterdam in November, bringing together international agents and more than 300 educators. The attendees were present for the launch of 2018 MLA Junior Summer catalogue and discovered new products and destinations in the UK and USA.
ESL announced winners of the Language Travel Awards at its annual workshop in Barcelona. The awards provide language students with rankings of 400 language schools over five continents, based on analysis of over 7,000 students satisfaction reviews and more than 180 ESL team member ratings received over the last year.
Schools from UK, USA, Cyprus and Germany were represented at the Baltic Council’s Exclusive Secondary Focus fair in Riga, Latvia and Vilnius, Lithuania. The fair aimed to recruit new students from Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Russia and Belarus to basic and secondary education, school and university foundation programmes.
Quality English hosted its annual Conference and Agent Workshop in Malta, with 24 QE schools and 16 agents in attendance. The two day event featured a conference day and an Agent Workshop attracting study travel agents Japan, Taiwan, Turkey and Panama. The 2018 QE Conference and Workshop will be held in Milan.
The American International Recruitment Council held its 9th annual conference in Weston, Florida in early December. Entitled A New Outlook on Global Student Mobility: Recruiting in Changing Times, US institutions met with agents from around the globe to discuss big issues concerning the recruitment of international students to the US.
London Nest held its Christmas party at Neighbour cocktail bar and restaurant in Kentish Town. The student accommodation specialists decided on a fancy dress theme – ‘heroes of time’ and employees and friends celebrated late into the evening.
The British Council held its Services for International Education Marketing conference in Glasgow recently, focusing on strategy, innovation and intelligence. Agents and British Council representatives from around the world met with FE and HE institutions and schools at, one of the city’s top tourist attractions, the Kelvingrove Museum.
