APAIE 2017, Kaohsiung, Taiwan – Tuesday

The 2017 APAIE conference began with a surprise dance performance from students at National Sun Yat Sen University. Receptions brought the day to a close – including the Study San Antonio Meet and Greet Fiesta and the Australia Universities Reception.  

BAISIS conference, Birmingham, UK

The British Association of Independent Schools with International Students held its annual conference in Birmingham on March 9-10. Discussions during the day ranged from Brexit to exam reform, and from setting up a campus overseas to student welfare.

SXSWedu, Austin, Texas, US

The SXSWedu Conference & Festival took place on March 6-9 in Austin, Texas as part of the South by Southwest family of festivals. Delegates took part in four days of compelling sessions, in-depth workshops, engaging learning experiences, mentorship, film screenings, startup events, policy-centered discussions, business opportunities and networking.

Study Melbourne services launch, Aus

On March 14, Victorian minister for small business, innovation and trade Philip Dalidakis launched the redesigned study.melbourne website along with the LIVE – Lead, Intern, Volunteer, Experience -employability and internship programme and new student project funding at the Study Melbourne Student Centre.

NSW Dept of Education Int’l Student Awards

Australia’s New South Wales government presented the NSW Department of Education International Student Awards at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music in February. Presenting the awards, Elizabeth Webber, CEO of DE International, said international students “enrich our schools, establish networks and assist in making all students global citizens”. Languages Canada conference, Quebec

Over 200 leaders from the language sector, government officials, NGO representatives and other international education stakeholders came together in Quebec City for Languages Canada’s 10th annual conference.

The British Boarding Schools Workshop took place at the Radisson Hotel near Heathrow earlier this month. Over two days, UK boarding schools meet face-to-face with educational consultants representing over 50 countries worldwide.

Universities Australia opening reception

Universities Australia celebrated turning ten during their ninth annual conference in Canberra. Delegates enjoyed a drink and a sneak peak of an upcoming documentary on the organisation’s history.

English UK London – Hello Neighbour Event

Last month, London-based schools, providers, and ETOs came together for another “Hello Neighbour” evening of networking and drinks hosted by English UK London.

AIEA annual conference 2017, Washington DC

Over 900 delegates travelled to Washington DC for this year’s Association of International Education Administrators annual conference. Delegates discussed the challenges to international education amid US policy uncertainty and how to respond. The PIE was the event’s media partner and also sponsored the Presidential Fellows and Mentors reception.

Chancellor installation, Regent’s University, UK

On February 21, Regent’s University London installed its second ever chancellor, Lord Michael Hastings, who takes over from outgoing chancellor John Drew. Friends, family, trustees, students and faculty all attended the grand ceremony.
