The 2018 Global Internship Conference was held in Detroit, Michigan, USA from June 12-15. Co-hosted by three Michigan universities: Michigan State University, Wayne State University, and the University of Michigan, the conference focussed on trends in the international internship market. The fourth Great Place to Study Thought Leadership Award was held at the Hotel Montcalm Marble Arch London in June. The University of Edinburgh, the National Indian Student Union (NISAU), Prof. Mukulika Banerjee from LSE, Lord Megnad Desai, Selva Pankaj from Regent Group and The PIE News were all honoured with awards.
The Global Student Mobility USA Roadshow Spring 2018 ran from May 28 and visited Ohio, Tennessee, Alabama and Georgia. Around 100 representatives took part in fairs at Xavier University, Tennessee Technological University and University of Alabama, including 19 agencies from Bangladesh, Cambodia, India, South Korea, Thailand and Vietnam.
The last full day of NAFSA kept up the momentum of full-on networking, many sessions and a plenary as well as receptions hosted by various brands. The PIE popped into the GoOverseas party, GoAbroad awards, and the Turkish night dinner organised by A2 international education fairs and the Turken Foundation.
Bill Nye featured as Wednesday’s plenary speak at NAFSA 2018 prior to the Australian Universities International Directors Forum hosting its reception in an art gallery. Edu Canada held an event of its own and Rainbow SIG threw its 25th Anniversary Reception at Voyeur Nightclub.
Tuesday saw plenary speaker Laura Bush address the 9,000+ delegates who descended on Philadelphia, while plenty of evening receptions included the Global Leadership League’s, Education New Zealand’s “Think New” reception, LewerMark’s event at the Space Command exhibition, Sannam S4’s gathering and the annual BMI Brazil party, where a spectacular, international dance-off occured.
The first day of NAFSA saw a few warm-up networking receptions with Terra Dotta’s karaoke party being the main event for those feeling brave enough, on day one of a busy week!
Sixty of the world’s most prominent scholarship organisations, including The Saudi Ministry of Education, World Bank, IIE, Chevening, CONACYT (Mexico), COLFUTURO (Colombia) and the European Commission met education institutions from around the world at the first BMI Global Scholarship Summit, held in London in May.
The Generation UK reception was jointly hosted by the British Council and the All Party Parliamentary China Group in London. Speakers included HM Ambassador to China Barbara Woodward, British Council China country director Carma Elliot, minister for schools standard Nick Gibb, British Council chairman Christopher Rodrigues and chair of APPCG Richard Graham MP.
The English UK Conference saw over 200 attendees gather in London to celebrate a successful 2017 for UK ELT, network and join forces to promote the value of the industry to the country.
The 37th COBIS Annual Conference took place at the InterContinental London O2 in Greenwich, London, 12-14 May 2018. This year’s conference was attended by more than 700 delegates, exhibitors, speakers and guests, including heads, governors, proprietors and senior leaders from schools around the world. The evening of the 14th included a black tie dinner reception.
The SRT Spring 2018 Spain Tour for admission officers and international educators stretched over four days in March, in Bilbao, Madrid, Tenerife and Gran Canaria. 35 universities attended the fair along with the British Council. The SRT 2018 Italy Tour in April took place in four cities – Treviso, Padua, Florence and Bologna with 29 universities attending…
