The Dutch government has created a scholarship programme for Canadian students to mark the 70th anniversary of liberation from World War II German occupation, where Canadian soldiers played a significant role in liberating the country.

In The Netherlands, Nuffic, the organisation promoting internationalisation in higher education and the European Platform, which supports international efforts among teachers and schools in primary and secondary education, have combined as the Ministry of Education introduces a new unified approach to internationalising education.

A “new phase” of education policy in the Netherlands calling for the “mainstreaming of internationalisation” has been introduced by the Minister of Education. In a letter to parliament she outlined plans to establish a €5 million a year scholarship scheme, improve talent retention and facilitate TNE.

The Dutch government has committed financial support for development of a game that will give international students a head-start on learning the Dutch language and Dutch culture before they arrive in the Netherlands. In its early stages of development the game is set to be rolled out in 2015 by non-profit organisation Nuffic.
