Oxford English Centre in the UK – a 30-year old independent English language school – is under new ownership. It will remain an independent school.

In significant news for the education agency industry, a major Japan-based agency, BEO Ltd has announced its merger with Hands On Education Consultants in Thailand and investment from Kaplan as part of the deal. The news means a second investment into the distribution side of the business for Kaplan, following its acquisition of Pro Lingus in Switzerland in 2008.

In New Zealand, the Joint Council of Wellington Institute of Technology (WelTec) and Whitireia Community Polytechnic, through its wholly-owned subsidiary Whitireia NZ Ltd., has agreed to take over all students and courses of Computer Power NZ Ltd. The three-campus IT training provider is in liquidation.
