Irish ELT college closed due to visa fraud
Apr 28
Eden College in Dublin has been shut down with immediate effect following a Sunday Times investigation that exposed staff of offering to alter attendance records, an act in breach of visa regulations. An estimated 400 ELT students have been affected of the total 1,200 enrolled students on courses including business, nursing and hospitality programmes.

Languages Canada helps students affected by closure of L’Estrie

Hundreds of staff and many language students were left in limbo following the sudden closure of the established L’Estrie Language School in Canada earlier this year. Thanks to Languages Canada all students on language training programmes were able to continue their studies elsewhere.

UK: outbound study interest on the rise

Over a third of UK tertiary-aged students are considering studying overseas, up 17% from last year, according to a recent British Council survey of more than 2,500 students. The most popular overseas study destination by a large margin is the USA, followed by Australia, France and Germany.

IHWO welcomes new schools in Europe and Africa

International House World Organisation has expanded its network of schools to include centres in Italy, Angola, Russia and Germany, bringing its total number of affiliate schools to 158. IHWO’s Chief Operating Officer Lucy Horsefield said: “Our organization is growing steadily at the moment".

Non-EU accounts for 20% of uni income: UUK data

The total revenue earned by UK universities amounted to £27.9 billion in 2011-12 with international revenues amounting to nearly £5.7 billion, accounting for over 20% of all university income, according to a new Universities UK (UUK) report unveiled today at “The contribution of UK universities to national and local economic growth” conference.
