Booming Chinese investment in Africa could prove to be beneficial for France. With historical and lingual ties to several countries on the continent, France has seen an increase in Chinese students keen to learn French and establish ties with French industry. As a result, the French government has initiated a series of programmes to attract Chinese students to France.

Germany: rise in junior demand for English

The Eurocrisis hasn't affected Germany's outbound student market as 2013 figures from the German agency association, FDSV, show that student weeks increased, lead by strong demand for English courses in the junior market. The UK continues to dominate destination choice but has lost market share to English speaking competitors including Malta and the USA the association reports.

Australia is experiencing its strongest ever start to the year, bar its peak year of 2009, and has seen 21% growth across all international education sectors, latest AEI statistics have revealed. Yet growth is namely across higher education and Streamlined Visa Processing (SVP) providers, meaning it is not as balanced as it seems.

Canada's University of Windsor is facing a legal battle with Higher-Edge, a student recruitment firm suing the university for $24.1 million over approaches to its employees and to international students directly. Higher-Edge runs the Canadian University Application Centre in various countries.

Sri Lanka opens university system to foreign investors

The Sri Lankan government has outlined plans to open up its higher educational system to private overseas university investors and aims to attract 50,000 international students and 10 foreign university campuses by 2020, starting with a UCLAN campus which will open in September 2015.
