ALTO survey – outbound boom; Olympics bite

The latest survey of business trends among language schools and education agencies by ALTO has revealed mixed business fortunes among those canvassed about their Q3 results. UK-based language schools cited a drop in business; agencies in Colombia, Turkey, Nigeria and Russia were very upbeat about Q4 (although 42% of Spanish companies took a dim view).

Can London’s ELT sector shake the “Olympic effect”?

The PIE News has learned that some English language schools, and the agents who serve them, are seeing a worrying drop in business in July and August as a direct result of the Olympic Games in the capital. Flight prices are one factor but the sector is keen to market the message the courses and accommodation remain reasonable and available. Dan Thomas reports.
