Stakeholders in the US’ international education community have welcomed new government commitments to promote the country as a study destination.
The US Department of State is partnering with CollegeWeekLive, an online platform which provides video conferencing facilities and resources for students, to deliver a series of virtual college fairs to entice more international students to study in the US. Virtual event success means they are now considered "equally important" to traditional events.
The US State Department has partnered with online education provider Coursera to create learning hubs at select embassies around the world. The hubs will provide a blended learning environment around courses available on the MOOC platform with the aim to promote the US as a study destination.
US universities say that Education USA, the state body tasked with promoting US education abroad, is failing to support them fully because it refuses to work with education agents, or to attend agent-backed fairs. The add that it is not coordinating properly with government departments that do tolerate agents.
