A company backed by Permira Funds has agreed to invest in a majority stake in the EF Education First Kids & Teens chain of schools in China and Indonesia. 

Over 50% of the 60 countries studied have improved their English proficiency over the past six years with Scandinavian countries maintaining the lead and Asia overtaking Latin American and the Middle East. Turkey saw the largest improvement in language ability while Sweden has the highest English proficiency score and Iraq the lowest.

EF – one of the world's largest private language training providers – has announced its online language school is now available as an Android App allowing students instant mobile access to its cloud-based online school, Efekta 13. Students will have access to teacher-led private and group classes 24 hours a day.

The ELT giant Education First (EF) is to run its first summer school with the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) this August, dedicated to improving international cooperation and combatting extremism. 100 young people from around the world will attend with the aim of building skills and knowledge "to collaborate across borders".
