Indian scholars will help rebuild Christchurch, NZ

New Zealand’s government has awarded NZ$150,000 in scholarships to some of India’s top students in partnership with Christchurch Educated and the Canterbury Development Corporation, in an effort to build ties with India and plug a skills gap to help with the rebuilding of the city.

New Zealand has launched a marketing drive to increase the Canterbury region's appeal as a destination for international students, after enrolments were hit by last year's earthquake. The scheme, Christchurch Educated, will also guarantee university entrance to international graduates of Christchurch secondary schools.

NZ: work rights for all English students in Christchurch

All English language students studying in the Canterbury region of New Zealand will now be able to work part-time to supplement their income, as the NZ government moves to shore up the local industry, which suffered a 37% decline in business last year. Industry operators strongly endorsed the decision.
