FDSV, Education UK launch photo competitions

Both the UK and Germany are calling on the creative photography skills of international students to promote study opportunities in competitions with prizes worth the value of £250 and €500 respectively.

FDSV in Germany is working in partnership with a youth organisation to give away 10 x €500 vouchers to use towards study abroad

"If it reaches new audiences and stimulates interest in the UK, we welcome that"

In Germany, agency association FDSV is running a competition in partnership with the German Foundation for International Understanding, offering €500 vouchers which can be used for a language travel trip to selected winners of its competition.

It is inviting German students interested in studying a language overseas to capture the essence of their favoured destination in a photo;  students have the chance to win one of 10 language course vouchers worth €500 and winners are decided by an online audience.

Photos can be submitted until 28 February, when a jury decides on a shortlist which the public votes for between 3 and 15 March.

Meanwhile, Education UK is seeking to promote the appeal of the UK as a study destination by asking international students already in the country to document highlights that the country can offer.

It is inviting existing international students to “send a postcard to the world” showcasing the best of life in the UK.

Students are being incentivised by the chance of winning £250 worth of vouchers that they can spend on travel and tourism products in the UK via the Visit Britain shop.

Judging will take place between 1 and 10 March 2014 and the judging panel includes representatives from the 10 Downing Street GREAT team, Visit Britain and the British Council.

“We want students to share what they love best about being here – whether it is dancing in the mud at a rainy UK music festival, having a cup of tea in their Students’ Union, doing ground-breaking research in their lab, or climbing Snowdon” a spokesperson for the campaign told The PIE News.

Winners will have their photographs featured in Education UK, British Council, Visit Britain and GREAT publications and on associated digital channels.
