New player in UK’s internship market

The Working Holiday Store is a new entrant to the UK internship market and confident that more British businesses will be keen to pay for an international non-EU intern to work with their company, given the global mindset and new language skills they can bring with them.

Paid internships are now the only option for non-EU students keen to gain work experience in the UK

Founded by Chris Dutton, who spent many years working with BUNAC, the Working Holiday Store is working pro-actively with employers to educate them of the benefits of hiring non-EU interns. Since changes in visa regulations, the internship market for non-EU students has shifted significantly, and paid internships are now the only option for non-EU students keen to gain work experience and insight into UK business practice.

Dutton explained that new company Working Holiday Store provided a simple five-step plan to ensure finding and recruiting suitable paid interns from overseas could be easily achieved.

The service is pitched at companies keen to internationalise their workforce on an agreed internship basis.

“Employing from overseas is a great way to internationalise a brand, and the support provided by Working Holiday Store and our Sponsor will make the recruitment process easier for any business,” he said. “From advertising to assisting with logistics, we will help them find the right intern.”

The five-step plan takes in advertising a vacancy; introducing suitable interns to a company (sourced with help from an overseas partners); help with negotiating the Tier 5 visa process; re-location assistance provided to the interns; and providing local support for them in the UK on top of pre-arrival assistance.

Dutton pointed out an intern’s tangible benefit was “not least their ability to relate to a wider customer base and excellent international communication skills”. He said, “They can foster creativity and generate global curiosity & knowledge amongst colleagues. All this translates into greater efficiency, enhanced reputation and ultimately a positive impact on the bottom line.”
