City pros to mentor CATS College London students

CATS College London, owned by Cambridge Education Group, has partnered with London City professionals to offer its students mentorships for the coming academic year.

"We're fortunate to have links with senior employees throughout different professions"

Building on the success of the boarding school’s newly inaugurated London campus, eight mentorships are up for grabs with senior professionals from Bedrock Group, Withers Worldwide, Papworth Hospital, Cambridge Education Group, Highways Agency and bulge bracket banks.

“This is an initiative that we knew would enhance our students’ studying experience. CATS College London is based in the heart of the city and our students are aiming for careers within key professions such as finance, banking and law so the college is perfectly positioned to help them achieve these goals.” said Nikki Pegram, CATS College marketing manager.

“We’re fortunate to have links with senior employees in a range of professions at global brands,” she added. “We’ve been able to build those links and develop them further into this mentorship programme.”

Running in 2013 from January to June the mentorship options range from a monthly telephone conversation, a week’s work experience or a day job-shadowing.

“These professionals have been really forthcoming because they can see the value in trying to enhance our students’ experience during the time they’re with us,” said Pegram.

The college will match students with a mentor depending on their intended degree and study pathway. Students will be judged on their academic performance, ability to prove their passion for the sector, academic attendance and an interview with the college’s principal in their bid to scoop a mentoring opportunity.

“The campaign is already creating quite a buzz in the market”

“The campaign is already creating quite a buzz in the market,” said Pegram. She added that staff have given positive feedback on the applications received so far. The application process will continue until autumn. A final decision will be taken for the eight positions in December.

CATS College launched the London campus in September 2011 and currently enrols 165 students. It has two additional campuses in Cambridge and Canterbury.
